| Iyengar Yoga, which is the most widely recognized approach to Hatha Yoga, was created by B.K.S. Iyengar, the younger brother-in-law of Shri Krishnamacharya. This style is characterized by precision performance and the aid of various props, such as cushions, benches, wood blocks, straps, and even sand bags, and hence is sometimes called “furniture Yoga.” Iyengar has trained thousands of teachers, many of whom are in the United States. His Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, founded in 1974 and dedicated to his late wife Ramamani, is located in Pune, India. |

Greetings! Have you ever felt so fatigued or stressed that you could not find the energy to practice the most basic yoga postures that you learned in a Level I class? Have you ever looked at the schedule from your favorite yoga studio for a class to restore your mind and body into an aligned relaxed natural state, in which self healing may occur without effort, and suddenly noticed the words Restorative Yoga following an Iyengar Level II class. The description on the flyer says one-hour class to restore the body and the mind. Now you ask yourself, "What is restorative yoga and how can it work to reduce chronic stress?"

Do you have to conquer your physical body to fully delve into your spiritual body? I wouldn't call it conquer. I would say understand it. I love physical challenges. Some people love doing asana, but they don't like challenges. I love the challenge of doing a new pose. I decided years ago I wanted to do every pose in Light on Yoga. To find yourself, you don't have to do every pose in Light on Yoga. |

Dandasana is the starting posture for seated poses much like Tadasana (the mountain pose) is the starting posture for standing poses. In this pose, your alignment is similar to Tadasana in that, when the pose is viewed from the side, your ear is above the shoulder which is above the side of your mid-hip. |

Eka Pada Dandasana is a strong backbend. In the pose the head is nestled in the hands as in Sirsasana (the headstand), and the torso is gracefully arched into the air. One foot remains on the floor while the other leg is raised and extended with the foot pointing towards the sky. |
