John Schumacher came to yoga in 1970 and went to India where he found his teacher, BKS Iyengar. He has studied with Mr. Iyengar many times and is a certified senior Iyengar teacher. In 1979, John began Unity Woods Yoga Center, which now has 3 locations in the Washington, DC and surrounding areas. It is the largest yoga center in the Washington, DC area and one of the most highly respected in the country. John travels internationally and teaches in the US and abroad.
John is a member of the intensive committee of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the U.S. and a former member of the advisory board of Unity in Yoga. John has written numerous articles for publications, has contributed to several books on yoga and was the the Yoga Journal Asana columnist for the year 2000. He also has appeared in the Yoga Journal Calendar. He has also produced two best-selling audio tape cassettes on yoga practice.
