This is an intro to the main countries of the story and some other factions of importance...

Aidar

Aidar is the main country of the story.  It has stood as a great empire for over 1200 years at the beginning of the story.  It has had many wars with Thargon, including the Great War (for more info click here).  Aidar is mostly plains, and has a great abundance of corn, wheat, and barley.  The capitol of Aidar is Geir'Aidar, a port city on the coast.  Much of the Aidarian army is mounted, since horses are easily raised in their climate.   The people consider themselves very "civilized," regarding the other countries (particularly Thargon) as barbaric.

Thargon

Thargon is a vast empire to the south of Aidar.  Only the northern corner is shown on the map.  The northern part of Thargon is mostly desert, but to the south the land is fertile.  The people are semi-nomadic, and very warlike.  Warriors consider it a great honor to die in battle fighting against Aidar, whom they regard as barbaric.  They have few horses, since horses are not raised well in their climate.  Most warriors fight with scimitars and round shields.

Ithmacar

Ithmacar was formed by, and is ruled by Aidar.  When the King fled north during the Great War, he won the respect of the Ithmacarian people, and they elected him as their ruler.  Now Ithmacar is tributary to Aidar, and an Aidarian Duke rules in Anash.  Ithmacar has a very rocky terrain, so it is very hard to grow much of anything there.  They export a lot of stone and metals and buy a lot of grains.  Ithmacarian soldiers fight with big, double-bladed axes.  Their chain-mail armor is considered the strongest in Cainor, because it is made with a secret metal that the Ithmacarians mine.

Carnoll

Little is known about Carnoll, except that they are a prosperous people, and will hire their army out to whoever will pay the most.  Much the Carnollian army rides centaurs, so they are twice as deadly as the Aidarian knights.  The centaur will usually wield a bow to start with, but in the middle of a fray, both the centaur and the rider fight with sometimes up to two swords each.  The appearance of centaur riders in the middle of a battle can mean great hope for their friends, and almost certain death to their enemies.

The Celtarn

The Celtarn are a group of warriors sworn to the Aidarian crown and to justice.  Their commitment to justice, however, is stronger than to the Aidarian crown, and they have sworn to break their oath to Aidar if the king should become a tyrant, or become corrupt.  They are usually called after orcs have raided a town, or highwaymen have attacked a caravan or a similar scenario.  The Celtarn were formed shortly after the Great War.  New Celtarn, or Geltra, usually start training around five or six years of age.  The normal age for being initiated into the Celtarn is eighteen or nineteen.  Celtarn are trained to fight with both a broadsword and a rapier, in case a situation should require one-on-one combat.

The Orcs*

The orcs are the descendants of Thargonite warriors who fled into the mountains during the Great War.  There they survived by making raids at night to take food and women from towns that dot the edge of the mountain range.  The orcs have become tribal people, often warring with other tribes.  They do have a king, however, in their capitol Stoth'Orroth.  When they're not fighting each other, tournaments are a popular sport.  Sometimes a raiding band will bring back a warrior from Aidar, and they will force him to fight until he dies in an arena.

Aramia

Aramia is the fortress of the wizards.  It has it's own garrison of troops, separate from the Aidarian army, and it's walls are protected by ancient magic.  The wizards appeared during the Great War, and helped with the defeat of Thargon.  Now they have been working toward strengthening Aidar for another attack, but their plans may not have been laid deep enough...
