Make Up Policies
For series students, up to two make-ups maybe used in a class of the same length with any of the other Yogamala teachers. Make-ups MUST be used in the same semester in which the series was purchased, and cannot be carried over into future semesters (no exceptions!)
Cancellation Policy
If a class is cancelled due to weather, teacher emergency or other circumstances out of our control, either the class will be rescheduled or series students can make up the missed session in a class of equal length. At our discretion, the value of the class may be credited towards future series or drop-ins. We reserve the right to cancel a series class in the event of low registration. If you are pre-registered for the series, you will be offered the option of switching your registration to a class of the same length, or a refund of any remaining classes. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date.
Physical Wellbeing
Injuries: Please inform the teacher before the beginning of class if you have any injuries or physical issues.
Menstruation: In the Iyengar method, women who are menstruating are asked to avoid certain poses including strong twistings, abdominal work, and deep backbends, as well as any inversions. It is your responsibility to inform the teacher if you are menstruating before class. The teacher will give you a separate sequence or modify the class sequence as appropriate. If you have questions about the thought behind the menstrual sequence, please ask any of the Yogamala teachers.
Explanation of Levels
-
•Introduction to Iyengar Yoga. For absolute beginners who have not done yoga before. Also a good introduction for those new to the Iyengar method.
-
•Level I. Covers the foundational standing poses, seated poses, forward bends, twists, and simple backbends. Students are beginning to learn sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and halasana (plough pose).
-
•Level I/II. Builds on the foundation established in Level I. Students begin to prepare for and learn sirsasana (headstand) at the wall, and refine their practice of sarvangasana and variations. Intermediate backbends, including urdhva dhanurasana, are introduced.
-
•Level II. Students are learning to balance in sirsasana and have become stable in sarvangasana and variations. Full arm balance and pinca mayurasana are taught regularly. Students are learning to push up into urdhva dhanurasana unassisted.
-
•Level III/IV. A minimum of 2 years of weekly classes in the Iyengar method is typically expected. Students should be able to comfortably stay in inversions for longer timings (sirsasana: 5 minutes, sarvangasana and variations: 10 minutes)
-
•Level V. Please obtain Patricia’s permission to attend this class prior to registration. Students are expected to have a regular pranayama practice, including seated and digital pranayama.
