Mucous runs downhill:-)

The obvious things to do are:
-a regular neti to cleanse the nasal passages
-reduction or elimination of dairy products

DimDim--as Gordon said--happens to most people--like getting a massage and you just can't wait to turn over on your back. Maybe try a vinyasa style practice where you don't stay inverted too long.

Thanks for the replies. I read them this morning and since I don't really drink much milk I decided to try the neti system. Just bought it, will see how it goes.

Thanks again.

Milk, cheese, butter... which includes baked goods using same...

But see how the neti goes. Please follow your teacher's instructions for the neti solution including the angle of the head when doing the rinse and the ratio of salt to water, not to mention the type of salt advised for such use.

I get this nearly every day in the winter during my sun salutations. It usually clears by the third or fourth one, but if it doesn't a swift blow of the nose usually sorts it out. Try the neti if you want, but a box of kleenex might do the trick too.

Mr, Gordon Kaplan is absolutely right; please start Jala Neti practice under guidance of your teacher. I’m sure will be benefited.
I wish you all the best..........

In the longer term, it may be good as well to look at your diet and lifestyle from an ayurvedic perspective. An excess of mucus is a strong sign that your dosas are out of sync and you may have too much kapha in your constitution. An ayurvedic practitioner can help you explore this and figure out whether you're 'naturally' kapha or whether theres too much kapha in your diet. Either way, some simple diet changes can help, as can some pranayamas (for example, kapalabhati).

In the meantime, a good daily jala neti practice is a really good idea!

PS. Please note this is speculation and not diagnosis!! You need a proper assessment to figure out your ayurvedic constitution, not just a bunged up nose on a message board!!

Kapalabhati is the example of Pranayama. So Kapalabhati is Pranayama right? I'm confused................

Please explain this...

Thanks

Namaste Joseph,
According to Yoga text, Kalpalabhati is a not a Pranayama, it is a cleansing technique. So please don’t get confused...
Best wishes

Now I'm the one who is confused. Sure, kapalabhati is a kriya, but I was under the impression that it was a pranayama as well?

I'd value any guidance/thoughts on that please!

Namaste!

In Sanskrit, kapala means ‘skull’ and bhati means ‘shinning’. As such, Kapalabhati is a technique, which makes the skull shine or glow. It is not a pranayama, but one of the the ‘Kriya’ from ‘Shat Karmas’ (six cleansing processes in Hatha Yoga), which not only cleans the skull but also cleans the entire respiratory track. According to Yogis, we have only eight Pranayamas or Yogic Breathing. These are known as Ashta (eight) Kumbhaka (breath holding techniques) and before proceeding to the practice of pranayama, everyone should practice Kapalabhati for a few weeks to prepare the mind and body.
I agree that some Yoga masters have used kapalabhati as a Pranayama for the general Yoga practitioners, who don’t want to go deeper.

Thanks & best wishes

Thank you so much. My Yoga teacher also told me that Kapalabhati is one of the six yoga cleansing techniques, known as Shat Karma. But some people use this technique by the name of pranayama.

Thanks again

It doesn’t matter Joseph. Pranayama is Yogic Breathing techniques. Kapalabhati also the same, - Yogic Breathing technique, only it is included in cleansing group. So, one should practice this technique before practice Pranayama. Thats it................
Take it easy please....
Best wishes

Sure Joseph,
“Shat-karma” or six Yogic Kriyas or Yogic cleansing techniques are as follows: Dhouti, Basti, Neti, Lauliki (Nauli), Tratak and Kapalbhati.
I wish you all the best...
