| I am too embarrassed to ask my teacher. I don't want her to mistake my question as flirting or whatever. My wife can't take it anymore. My libido has gone through the roof in the last year. I feel like I am 18 again. Is this normal and does it eventually taper off, or is this how I should be? | |||

I'd also point out that most forms of exercise will cause a rise in the big T levels, resulting in a rise in libido. Where you pretty seditary before this?

| The few times my beau has done Bikram yoga with me, he has gotten a spike in (a normally pretty high) libido. His usual workout is running and hitting the gym. Apparently, yoga is powerful mojo! | |||

I'm sure that can't be it--it must be the genius of Bikram and his patented yoga and the in-depth training he instills in his instructors.

They're focusing on their intention and looking at themselves in the mirror. And trying not to pass out in by the time they hit Balancing Stick. Be serious, okay?

| My thoughts? Increased libido probably came from the increased endorphins from doing yoga, that's connected with the confidence you develop because you're becoming so self aware, self accepting and addicted to a healthy practice. The combination of the group dynamic, yet individual focus, may contribute a lot to being comfortable with your body-- in a room full of people and to yourself. Doing Bikram yoga seems to naturally allow inhibitions and insecurities to melt away-- I know I experienced that! And when you're happier with yourself, you're happier in general. Plus you notice your body change, tighten up, skin's glowing, body feels alive and purified...The positive chemical (endorphins and other good hormones) and psychological (happy happy happy!) effects are so powerful! I use to go to the gym, run and bike a lot, and yes, I still felt the same effects, but I do notice a difference between say, running alot or doing yoga alot. I remember somedays I'd be sick of running and I'd dread it. Finishing a 9 mile run made me feel on top of the world! But knowing I had to run again the next day was kind of challenging...I never, however, dreaded yoga or got sick of it. Also, I was more obsessed with fitness when I was running a lot. Now, even spending much more time going to yoga, makes me less obsessed about fitness. It's now a lifestyle and much more enjoyable. Does anyone else relate? Does anyone else disagree? | |||

Doing Bikram yoga seems to naturally allow inhibitions and insecurities to melt away-- I know I experienced that! I don't think it has anything to do with a group of people and being comfortable with your body like that. I get the same results from my home practice and it has nothing to do with my external situation. I truly believe it is the sequence of asana's. It is the perfect combination to give these results, that is why I do them. I know how to do other yoga asana's. In fact, I've tried to put my own sequences together, but never have I gotten the desired results like I do with Bikram's formula. It is more complete for my needs and for a general yoga practice. If you like Bikram's series, you should try them at home, by yourself, no music, at your own pace with a lower temperature like between 80 and 85 degrees....that is very incredible!!!

Member Posts: 14 Location: New Jersey | Interesting discussion. Although I had been practicing another form of yoga (sort of Hatha/Kripalu) for a few years, after my first Bikram class I definitely experienced *something* that I could construe as heightened libido. I don't think it's just the sweaty near-nakedness, either. It doesn't happen every time, but there's definitely a charge I get from it. I get horny from sunbathing, don't get it frmo long-distance running... I think there's something in the heat and whatever organs are getting massaged. I also think the libido-effect makes Birkam somewhat addictive (and popular).

Extreme Veteran Posts: 330 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So that what it was. I always suspected. A few summers ago, I was doing bikram regularly and because almost obsessed with sex. It was fun but new and a little scary. That was too short lived, now I have noticed a connection between increased yoga and increased libido......... but not during class. I can't think of a less sexual time than during class... after maybe..

| Did anyone imply increased libido DURING class?? I personally don't think about, or feel increased libido during class-- no way..I tend to encounter other things like the pain, the sweat and how uncomfortable the postures can be. Now, uncomfortable doesn't mean undesirable. I still love it. Yoga's not supposed to always feel good--that's why we feel intense fulfillment, improved health and physique (sorry this isn't new news to you all) but my point is, I'm thinking of the yoga and concentrating on melting away stress... Being that it's been a long time, I couldn't say or confirmed "increased libido". Sure I think about it and want it, but the biggest turn on is being attracted to someone I want, and unfortunately, I've been a magnet to the opposite of all qualities that stir me. Anyway, the only big difference I've discovered from Bikram is I worry less and people say I'm "glowing". Great! | |||

Expert Yogi Posts: 2448 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: A Blue State | It's hard to think of the Bikram class as a libido experience while in the process of it, since you are mostly aiming to stay on two feet despite the heat. I don't think that the exposed flesh of the class can be dismissed...eventually, you see just about everything on just about everybody. No other style of yoga is quite like that, in my experience. I'd suppose that if you have been inactive prior to Bikram, the resurgent vitality in you, from getting regular exercise, would pull up the libido along with everything else.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 330 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From reading this thread I have come to the conclusion that Bikram, done regularly, can radically increase libido in SOME people. Everyone who has contributed talking about vitality as causing in the increased libido, has a point but its not THE point. When this happens, as it has at some times for me, it is like being 15 again. It's pretty all consuming and body based, not based on vitality, or increased self image.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 330 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | to reply to myself, my friend thinks it is caused by an increase in Kundalini energy. It's a little like being manic,..... lots of energy, happiness and very increased libido. It's no so extremely manic that it involves buying sprees or walking down the street naked or anything.

| I believe the master has explained it himself... "I'm beyond Superman." When you ask how he can make such wild statements, he answers, "Because I have balls like atom bombs, two of them, 100 megatons each. Nobody f**ks with me." "But are the gurus, in fact, the ones being victimized? The Speedo-clad Bikram certainly thinks so. Defending the behavior of Yee and Desai, Bikram says he himself was actually blackmailed several times into having sex with students. "What happens when they say they will commit suicide unless you sleep with them?" he says. "What am I supposed to do? Sometimes having an affair is the only way to save someone's life." | |||

Which is another way he's beyond superman. Superman used to use his powers and stuff to save people after they tried to kill themselves, Bikram strikes before they even make an attempt.

Moderator Posts: 4020 ![]() ![]() Location: San Antonio, Republic of Texas USA | Brother Bay Guy wouldn't jest about such things--he's anti-nuclear. I on the other hand am a nuclear proponent and can relate it to Robert Duvall's line, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Now that's a libido enhancer.

Reminds me of that bit in Alice's Resturant Massacre: They got a building down New York City, it's called Whitehall Street, where you walk in, you get injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected and selected. I went down to get my physical examination one day, and I walked in, I sat down, got good and drunk the night before, so I looked and felt my best when I went in that morning. `Cause I wanted to look like the all-American kid from New York City, man I wanted, I wanted to feel like the all-, I wanted to be the all American kid from New York, and I walked in, sat down, I was hung down, brung down, hung up, and all kinds o' mean nasty ugly things. And I waked in and sat down and they gave me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the phsychiatrist, room 604." And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy." Edited by GreenJello 2006-02-22 11:10 AM
