Subject: Just Joined Dahn Yoga

I just joined a Dahn Yoga center 1 block from my house. It is about $120 a month with unlimited classes. I wasn't pressured into anything, although more expensive memberships were suggested and future workshops.
We'll see how it goes.
If I had to drive 5 minutes, I may not go often, so I think I'll get my money's worth just because it is next door to me.

Who is a Dahn member here? Some are negative about it, but I think it seems harmless, and not cult-like.

use your best judgement no matter what. stay grounded and be careful. Dahn Yoga has quite a reputation.

driving five minutes may put you off? LOL try two hours. goodness. i drive at least 30 minutes away to teach yoga. i drive 2 hours (more if traffic) to take yoga classes from my teacher.

five minutes. . .

I try to save gas.. and I live in the city by choice, therefore, walking wherever I need to go is the obvious, logical choice for my chosen lifestyle.

Well, I am still a memeber. I am going there for an excercise and my masters don't give me much trouble.
But all the negative things people say are true.

The trick is to know whether you are targeted or not, and make sure you are not.
They target people for 2 reasons, - money and becoming a teacher / master (usually unattached ones).
If you are not targeted, you can keep going there and never see anything wrong.
if they target you, you will experieince a lot of pressure in the first couple of months, they'll either break you into submission, you'll leave or they will leave you alone eventually.
Ah, yes, and don't trust them no matter how many times they tell you that they love you.

Does this help?

Now, thinking about it. This all sounds pretty nasty.
I should probably just quit and find another center,
even though I do like their parcticular approach to the excercise.
I have been debating this with myself for a month now.

i would prefer to walk. i only marginally chose my location. if you have to drive five minutes, wouldn't it be a 20 minute walk or so in the city? also, depending upon the city (most major cities have lots of yoga studios), there may be another studio just a few blocks away.

i know that philadelphia has a ton of studios all over the city in the different neighborhoods. some neighborhoods actually have two or three studios.

"I should probably just quit and find another center,...

I agree.  I stay away from cults, even if their cult activities don't affect me directly.  People will see you there, smiling and hugging and happily exercising, and they will assume that because you are there, it must be okay - just like you see that someone posted that everyone seemed normal.  Some of those people might be the very ones who will be vulnerable and targetted.

Hi there
How is your Dahn yoga going? Anyone pressuring you so far? I am curious to know because it is my third month now and I still enjoy the excersises. It was suggested, that I join some of the workshops but I declined. A number of my fellow students are doing it and so far I have not heard anything bad.
