Welcome to the forum Rainbeau--we're honored. I believed your name--my wife's cousin, also a child of 60's parents, is named Rainbow Ruth and she likes the moniker--some individuality never hurt anybody.

Hey there... The pleasure is all mine....

Every once in a while, late on a Friday night, I might google myself. Not that I need to defend myself... but, I will anyway....

I have never done a porno... and the picture with the see through shirt, may be about as nude as you will ever find.

Many of the sites that talk about nude women, do that to EVERY SINGLE WOMAN that has ever been in a movie. When you go to find them, they are never really there.

I was hired to be in the movie, "The People Vs. Larry Flynt". when I was 18.... I played the sectretary that started out as the centerfold model... and that would be the height of my being unveiled, for the art of movie making...

Side note.

If you see the movie, I actually have nude, bathing suit bottoms on that they taped and cut off the hip.... They made it look blury as if to hide something, to portray what Larry Flynt world was about.

I loved the process and gift, of working with so many talented people as I did, on that movie. it greatly changed the course of my life.

I have been doing yoga since I was a baby. My mother an herbalist, my godmother, an ayurvedic teacher... I got wrapped into teaching it professionally, because I was in Hollywood and very much needed it to stay grounded.

I am a serious practioner, with a serious ability to teach. My reveiws are all great, my clients, usually high profile who could practice with whoever I want.

I am honestly not ashamed of the fact, that I have occassionally had a picture takes on me, or appeared in a movie, where I was more of the hippy, free spirit... after all................

LIFE IMITATES ART.

Thank you for the invite, it was fun to participate.

Thank you to all of the support as well and for those of you that like my videos.... I am vergy grateful to have had the opportunity to release something like that. It came from my heart and I hope has a positive effect on anyone who comes accross them.

The Yoga Sutra says that some are born in a state of yoga. My own observation of
babies is that they all seem to be great yogis. Most of us lose it and have to find it again
as adults.

And don't sweat the nudity thing -- half the people in the world look just like you with
their clothes off, and the other half have all seen it before. There's no big deal in being
naked.

Also, I'm sorry for poking fun at your name. When I was in first grade, I went by the
nickname my parents had given me. I was teased so much that I entered second grade
with my given name. You're not a business image, you are a person, right, so we need
to be more considerate.

Nuthin doin, Brother Bruce. To paraphrase Melville:

Call me Bay Guy. Some years ago--never mind how long precisely--having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off--then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

Substitute yoga phrases for all the sailor stuff.

Recently I picked up Rainbeau's "Pure Sweat" Vinyasa Flow DVD (Paid full retail 'cause it IS the digital collector's edition). And seriously, it's exactly what I was looking for--no B.S. just a great visualization of the asanas--from varying camera angles-- and the movements that connect them. What I especially appreciated was the way she settled into the poses and the narrative that accompanied them--thanks Yogini Mars!

So Brother Bruce, are you now a practitioner of Mars Yoga?
Somehow, this reminds me of a piece by Gustav Holst, which
a former warrior such as yourself may find inspiring.

Hey I know this thread has been quiet for awhile, but I have just registered on this site after lurking for a couple weeks and I have to chip in on this one. After *all* the discussion of Rainbeau's name, risque photos, hippie parents, and all that fun stuff, I don't think there was enough about the videos!!

Rainbeau's DVDs are what made me fall in love with yoga just over a year ago. I had begun with the Yoga Journal Beginners video, which is a nice grounding but really prosaic. I also put a hold on every yoga DVD in my local library so I could figure out what I liked. The first one to become available was Rainbeau's "Pure Tranquility." I loved it so, so much that I ordered the whole set right away. (Don't worry, I also go to yoga class! Although I didn't at first. I think it speaks well for Rainbeau's videos that I learned from them and didn't embarrass myself when I finally went to power yoga class.)

"Pure Tranquility" is just a really nice relaxation and preparation for meditation, and Rainbeau's "Beginner" DVD is quite different from the Yoga Journal one -- more about flow and breath. The other two, "Pure Sweat" and "Pure Power", are kinda' the meat of the series. She strikes a really good balance between enough explanation that a newbie can do the flow, but with a pace that keeps it interesting after you've been doing it for a year. I still use Sweat, Power, and Tranquility a lot. (Beginner is good after I've had the flu.)

I have added a lot of DVDs to my collection -- I like power yoga and vinyasa flow, so I've got Seane Corn, Bryan Kest, and Rodney Yee -- but I still like Rainbeau a lot and look forward to getting her new ones. I enjoy the little bits of spirituality/inspiration that she throws in -- not heavyhanded, but there. And I like that these practices are shorter -- 30-40 minutes each -- because on some mornings, I don't have time for an hour of yoga (or I don't feel like an hour of yoga!).

But this name game stuff is fun.

Since someone decided to resurrect this post, I'm gonna have fun w/ this name stuff too. I used to work for an insurance company as a secretary and used to do data entry for a gigantic hospital, so I came across some of the funniest names. Some of my favorites include:

-Fanny Smelley
-Gonorea Pipe (supposed to be pronounced gu-NOHR-ree-yuh is what I'm told, but doesn't it's spelling remind you of a certain STD we all know?)
-Lao-zi Li Hung (obvious cultural cross-over issue here!)
-Toeknee Head
-Jonathon Smiley (This guy was a dentist! Can you imagine having a dentist called Dr. Smiley?)
-Virginie Cherry

Rainbeau, I know this is an old post but on the slim chance you might come across this, I'm hoping you can answer a professional question from a fellow yogini.

First let me say, I too like your videos. Didn't realize it was you they were speaking off. Your videos are featured "On Demand" for Optimum customers.

I love your choice of music. I love Anugama and always get the most from my students when I play Shamanic Healing of Shamanic Dreams.
Did you approach Anugama and have to pay royalties? How did you go about securing that music for your DVDs? (I hope you don't mind me asking)

Mish
(probably never get answered )

Oh, real quick (was thinking about this during my yoga practice )
Talking about names, I guess some here would not like my choice of names for my children. Personally I love them!
My sons names are Shane and Maverick.

Mish

And it's not because we love westerns......just liked the names.

Mish- I know when we were looking into burning CDs for the restaurant, we found out about licensing agreements. If you contact ASCAP or BMI, most have a yearly contract fee that you sign up with. Most artists are covered by one or the other- although, I am sure some of the less mainstream music may be represented by someone else. But if you look these two companies up and contact them, they'd be able to give you more info.. and it gets tricky because some artists are covered by one company and others by the other one- so, for us, we'd have to get both licenses in order to burn CDs for public use and, financially, it didn't make any sense.
Good Luck!

Actually, I contacted some artists and spoke directly with them. It's a little pricey. One wanted $1000 per song if it was created for you (understandable) and if it is already produced and distributed, it was $350 per song. I guess that's not so bad if you loop

Mish

Everything is so complicated

Hello Rainbeau Mars and all of you folks!
I normally don't fall for any highly comercialized Yoga videos, most of them are made only with the purpose of making money, the more popular they are, as of now it seems the less spiritual value they offer,at least this is how I feel.
I'm glad that I have purchased a DVD featuring Rainbeau,I'm looking foreward to purchase most of her work.Regarding the name, I believe is a beautifull one,not that name would matter at all, at least for people who reached a certain level of being concious They all know , it has a little to none effect. It's great to watch a person who can practice any Asana ,feeling It,leaving It,being It ,that's how I felt watching your video workout ,this is what spiritual way is all about.
Dear Samantha 77,you were asking if anyoane would recommend her work,I certanly do so,it offers more than just a mechanical fake Yoga practice..you may ask who am I to recommend you anything, well I'm no one ,but it's the right way to go.
I couldn't help to read all the remarks about her beauty, nudity ,name ,She is certainly beautiful to me ,nice name as well ,again not that this would matter anything to a true seeker.
And yes,do you folks believe a porn star could not teach Yoga? to me what matters is ,if her Yoga work trully express what is Yoga all about,if it's a True expression.
Anyway, Rainbeau Mars, looking foreward to buying your Zen Mama DVD,sometimes is enough to watch a person once to realize if you'd spend more time in watching her other works as well,to me the one I saw , had a message, a good one, will not think twice to recommend it to my loved one when pregnancy comes, and becouse people are talking about you ,it means they have a felling as well regarding you,and an intrest as well..who in the right mind wouldn't agree that you have a great phisic?..again after all that matters only a bit,and I know ,I felt you're aware of that.
Thank You for your work , and sharing it with us.
Cheers,
OliverKiss
