Who Introduced Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga was introduced by a yoga sage, Yogi Swatmarama in 15th and 16th century in India.

What is the meaning of Hatha Yoga?

Almost everyone is aware of the term yoga but what is meant by hatha? Hatha is a Sanskrit word, where “Ha” refers to be the “sun” and “tha” refers to be the “moon”. So when both of these words are combined, the hatha yoga represents the unification of both positive as well as negative currents in the system.

The Significance of Hatha Yoga

According to the Classical Yoga perspective, there are 8 limb paths to yoga form, where each limb represents one part of the path. Hatha yoga is one of the eight paths and its motive is to purify the body and calm the mind. There are various postures and breath controlling exercises, which make one ready for the later path stages including meditation and contemplation.

Three Aspects of Hatha Yoga

There are 3 major aspects of hatha yoga designed to benefit the body, mind, and spirit. How each of this aspect is covered in this yoga would be explained here:

  • The Physical Aspect: As far as the physical aspect is concerned, you will be able to learn flexibility, endurance, and also to control your breathing. It would also further tone the muscles through various physical poses that you will have to do in this yoga. The physical aspect covers your health too. There are certain poses that tone the internal organs, making your immune system stronger. With a stronger immunity system, you will be saved from a number of diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis.
  • The Mental Aspect: When you will perform these physical exercises, also known as relaxation exercises, you will understand better how to cope with your stress. This will benefit you in releasing tension and ultimately, in the long run, you will know how to deal with stress, anxiety and even depression without much problem.
  • The Spiritual Aspect: The final important benefit attained through this yoga is the spiritual benefit. When you meditate, you will learn to better focus and concentrate, which will lead you to finding enlightenment.

So these are the three main aspects due to which hatha yoga is popular in both Eastern and Western countries.
