Keeping your power yoga routine safe

Power Yoga is said to be the modified version of Ashtanga yoga, but unlike the traditional Ashtanga yoga, where there are strict rules regarding the sequence of poses, power yoga places more emphasis on physical fitness rather than on yoga philosophy and wisdom. If done properly, Power Yoga can be extremely potent in helping one get in shape. Because of its intensity, one should follow the safety tips in order to safely benefit from Power Yoga without risking injury.

Is your Instructor good for Beginners?

If you are joining a power yoga class, you should first confirm whether the yoga instructor has experience working with beginners. Since power yoga is a tough form of yoga and people who are not strong and flexible would find difficulty in performing the various poses, the yoga instructor should make sure that he sticks with simpler, basic yoga poses before moving to more advanced positions.

Correct Poses and Proper Technique

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, the yoga instructor should keep an eye on all of his students to make sure that each of them has proper form in their poses. It is very important that poses are done correctly, as a misaligned pose could end up straining your muscles and even aggravating old injuries instead of making them heal.

Some individuals, wishing to quickly advance their health, may rush into doing all the poses or trying to learn at a quicker pace. It is important to refrain from doing advanced poses too soon. It always takes some time to master power yoga techniques, and if you are not flexible or focused, rushing into advanced techniques will do more harm than good. It is strongly advised to consult your doctor if you want to begin or continue doing power yoga during your pregnancy. Power yoga is usually not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy but there are some modified poses that will help to maintain a strong, flexible body during pregnancy.
