Energizing 10 Minute Yoga Workout
Many people struggle maintaining their energy levels throughout the day. Let’s be honest, sitting in a desk all day working away at paperwork can often be tiresome and drain away energy. If your work or studies are high stress, you’ll find yourself stuck with fatigue that is difficult to shake. Doing short bursts of yoga might not be the first solution that comes to mind, but it should be something you consider: A brief, 10 minute yoga workout can help elevate your energy levels, concentration and overall productivity.
How can a 10 minute yoga workout make such a difference?
Yoga focuses heavily on deep breathing; combined with poses and stretches, this helps efficiently pump oxygen throughout the body. When you’re sitting down in a chair, studying or working on a computer, there is little movement going on in your body. You are almost at a resting state, which means that blood is being pumped around the body relatively slowly. By practicing short bursts of yoga, you are essentially flooding your body with oxygen, helping to wake up your muscles while oxygenating your brain cells, leaving you refreshed and able to concentrate better. It is recommended for each hour of work you do, you should take a short 10 minute break, so why not make one of those a 10 minute yoga workout?
What exercises work best for a short, energizing yoga workout?
Tree pose – this is a fantastic balance based pose to do in the work or study environment, as it hardly takes up any space. While tightening your core and strengthening your leg muscles, it is comfortable enough that you can really focus on long, deep breaths.
Reverse warrior – a great standing stretch pose, it opens up the chest while stretching the groin, shoulders and arms. Take a moment while doing this pose to clear your mind and just focus on how relaxed and comfortable your body feels.
Wide leg forward bend – perfect if you have some space to move. This exercise involves stretching out your legs while turning your head upside on the ground. You’ll get a head rush – literally – which will be all that much needed oxygen flooding your brain cells.
Locust – while this pose looks a little silly and feels a little challenging, it’ll boost your heart rate and build strength and stamina. You’ll feel a comfortable discomfort in your back, legs and arms while you are toning your body.
These are just some suggestions of great poses that are easy to do almost anywhere, and you can use any of your favourite yoga poses. Be sure to hold them for at least 5 deep breaths, to ensure that you are making the most of each one. You don’t need to limit yourself to only one 10 minute yoga workout per day, feel free to do a few whenever you need the energy boost.
