Yoga Eye Exercises: Viewing the World through New, Refreshed Eyes!
If you spend your days staring at a computer screen, or have to keep your focus on the road for the bulk of your workday, or simply find yourself mentally drained from concentrating on the tasks at home or work, you know how exhausting and tiring it can be for the whole body and your eyes in particular. Yoga eye exercises may be just what you need to get a new view on life!
Yoga eye exercises are a natural way to improve concentration, promote relaxation and feel less strained overall. Many people wonder at how when they read and learn the new information, their minds become tense, which in turn strains the entire body. It feels like our brains have run a marathon even though we’ve sat sedentary for 8 plus hours.
Mental exhaustion is often more tiring than physical one, because at least when we exert ourselves physically, we get the “endorphin rush reward.” There’s none of that with mental workout. So, what do we do? Head to the nearest Starbucks of course, which only makes us more drained and jittery! In this case yoga eye exercises will not only help you to relax the eyes, but will give you an overall relief.
The first key step to accomplishing peace of mind and a clear outlook with these exercises is to turn the cell phone off. The kids are ok, and the dinner can wait.
Then sit comfortably with your back and neck straight, but not stiff.
Relax and empty the mind as if you are meditating. It can be easier said than done at first with a thousand things running through your brain, but you’ll learn gradually.
Next, focus your gaze on the tip of your nose without blinking. Remain like this for as long as you can. Then close your eyes and relax.
Next, imagine you have the third eye above your nose and focus on it. Close your eyes and relax. It may feel uncomfortable and may be difficult to do at first, but stay focused, not frustrated. Soon, you will find this posture easier to do.
Without turning your head, focus both eyes on your left shoulder. Remain like this for as long as you can. Close your eyes and relax. Repeat this sequence with the right shoulder.
Place the palms of your hands on your closed eyes and rest for as long as you feel comfortable. Sit in the moment, savor the quiet, and immerse yourself in the calm.
Start by holding each posture for a few minutes and gradually increase the timing.
You’ll find yoga eye exercises will leave you feeling more focused and refreshed, and viewing the world through “new eyes”!
