Increase Your Chances of Conception with Fertility Yoga Poses
A woman’s fertility is as unique as it is mysterious. There are countless stories of couples getting pregnant using multiple forms of birth control and other stories of couples trying for years to get pregnant without success. If you’re in the latter demographic, there may not be one single solution for pregnancy. But, there are effective methods for boosting one’s fertility. Yoga is one of them. Fertility yoga poses will work to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic area, reduce stress, and increase blood flow (two known factors in boosting the likelihood of conception).
Half Ankle to Knee Pose
Start out sitting up straight on your mat with your legs outstretched. Bend your left knee, and then bend your right so that the outside of your right ankle is touching the area directly above your left knee. Feel the stretch in your pelvic region and right hamstring. Repeat on the other side.
This pose can also be completed with the same motions but lying on your back. Here you will feel an even greater rush of blood to the pelvic area. This promotes blood flow within the uterus and promotes alignment of this region, two significant aspects of increasing conception.
Shoulder Opening Mountain Pose
When considering fertility yoga poses, logic seems to indicate that the poses should be primarily in the pelvic region, but this is not necessarily the case. The Shoulder Opening Mountain Pose targets the tension carried in the neck and shoulders. Since stress and tension are known to affect fertility hormones negatively, use this pose to promote a healthy hormonal balance.
Standing up with your legs shoulder-width apart and your hands placed calmly at your sides, start by breathing deeply. While exhaling, bring your arms up straight into the air above you. Tighten the biceps, triceps, and shoulder blades and be sure to bring your shoulders down so that they are not hunched up around your neck. Hold this for a full two minutes even when it becomes difficult.
Legs Up the Wall Pose
In traditional Sanskrit, this pose is called Viparita Karani. It is an excellent pose to end your practice: gentle and restorative, it will balance hormones, increase blood flow, and align the pelvic region. Sit down facing a wall. Place a yoga pillow or two folded towels below your back and slowly work your feet up the wall while keeping your back pulled to the pillow/towels. You will need to try a few adjustments to get situated but in the end you want your seat bones almost directly against the wall and your legs coming straight out. To achieve this, depending on your height and flexibility, you may need to bring your pillow closer or farther away from the wall.
It’s best to create a routine from these fertility yoga poses. Try to complete them four or five times per day, five days a week.
